GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

We are currently in need of Adjunct Instructors for Online Earth Science courses.

Compensation for this position is $810-882 per credit hour, based on credentials.

Adjunct positions are hired through a 3rd party staffing agency, “EduStaff”. Therefore, if selected, you will need to fulfill the application requirements of EduStaff.

The Adjunct Faculty position teaches college level course curriculum as defined by North Central Michigan College and assigned by a departmental dean; utilizing active learning strategies to assist the learner in meeting the course objectives. Adjunct faculty are hired through a staffing agency to teach on a semester-by-semester basis as the College's needs dictate. Therefore, teaching in any single semester does not obligate the College nor the Adjunct faculty member to teach future teaching assignments.

Adjunct Faculty receive evaluation from students and college administration, and participate in outcomes assessment efforts of the college. Adjunct Faculty conduct themselves in a professional manner promoting statesmanship with students, other faculty and administrative staff.

Duties:

  • Uses the Learning Management System (LMS), currently Brightspace, for posting of course syllabus and student grades.
  • Creates and communicates a syllabus for each course taught in accordance with master syllabi.
  • Makes syllabi available to all enrolled students and the Department Dean as required each semester.
  • Follows textbook ordering procedure and will respond promptly to requests for textbook information.
  • If instruction is to be on-line or hybrid, follows accreditation requirements and is approved to teach using remote instructional methods.
  • Participates in Outcomes Assessment Activities.
  • Submits final course grades according to the deadlines established at the end of the semester.
  • Uses the ncmich.edu email account to communicate with students, faculty and staff and will check email frequently and respond in a timely fashion to all emails.
  • Arranges with students to be available for office hours.
  • Engages in individual student development, accessibility and coordinates with Student Services as needed to foster student success.
  • Maintains course records as appropriate to normal college procedures and for course assessment.
  • Communicates with students both verbally and in writing according to FERPA guidelines.
  • Follows all college procedures and policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

For general education and transfer courses (English, Communications, Humanities, Math, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences):

  • Route 1: the faculty member is expected to hold a master's degree in the discipline or relevant sub-field as applicable; or
  • Route 2: if the master's is held in another discipline, the faculty member should hold at least 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline in which he or she teaches; or
  • Route 3: if the master's is held in another discipline, the faculty member should present a combination of graduate credits in the relevant discipline according to this schedule (candidate must present a minimum of nine (9) credits in the discipline or subfield):
  • 9 Graduate Credits in Relevant Discipline and 2 years minimum of Relevant Professional Experience (Full-Time)
  • 12 Graduate Credits in Relevant Discipline and 1.5 years minimum of Relevant Professional Experience (Full-Time)
  • 15 Graduate Credits in Relevant Discipline and 1 year minimum of Relevant Professional Experience (Full-Time) AND tested experience of the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) consistent with the federal Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule (GS) classification system at the GS 7 level for that discipline. Per HLC guidelines, time in service alone is not sufficient to receive credit toward this category of "tested" experience.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, the mission of a comprehensive community college.
  • Skills necessary to identify and use relevant technology.
  • Excellent written/verbal skills.

In the scheduling of both full-time and part-time/adjunct faculty for North Central courses, the College reviews a variety of factors including, but not limited to, full-time faculty load requirements, matching skills with course openings, location of courses, etc. The administration reserves the right to select and schedule both full-time and part-time faculty as course needs dictate.
