Basic Function and Responsibility:

The Director of Prospect Research and Management (“Director”) provides strategic and tactical Prospect Research and Management (“PRM”) leadership. The Director provides the technical knowledge and leadership for PRM functions. Responsible for all PRM functions, including: qualitative and quantitative data acquisition and analysis, data visualization, and project management. The Director participates in the management of all information required for the successful identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of potential and current annual fund, planned giving, major, and principal gift donors to the Foundation.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In cooperation with the Vice President of Information Systems and in consultation with the Vice President of Development, sets, implements and evaluates the strategic direction of the department and the annual department plan and budget, including the identification of tools and techniques to be used.
  • Establishes and maintains tools, policies and procedures for all aspects of PRM, including effectively building the prospect pool and conducting research that leads to effective prospect management, tracking and reporting
  • Acts as the primary visionary for recommending research tools and screening services, and effective implementation in the Foundation’s fundraising programs
  • Lead the Foundation PRM staff, planning, developing and implementing PRM programs
  • Recruits and supervises the PRM staff to support the development and execution of the PRM strategies
  • Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality
  • Establishes and monitors staff performance and development goals, assigns accountabilities, sets objectives, establishes priorities, conducts annual performance appraisals, and recommends salary adjustments
  • Develops and implements processes for tracking and reporting development activity and related prospect and donor data, including development staff activity reports, proposals/asks, strategies, moves, and credit for gifts to appropriate participants
  • Coordinates closely with the Vice President of Information Systems and Information Systems staff to implement the data systems, reporting, and analytics needed to fulfill the research team’s mission

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Progressive experience managing a team to achieve results
  • Knowledge of and experience with fundraising research practices in higher education
  • Experience analyzing and presenting complex data to non-technical users
  • Experience with data analytics and their use in development
  • Hands-on experience working with software systems to meet the dynamic needs of development professionals

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in data analytics or related area
  • Strong knowledge of Office suite tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
