Position Summary

Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a Career Services and Workforce Development Coordinator in the college's Workforce Education Department.

This position is responsible to coordinate high school dual credit opportunities for workforce programs, including CTE Dual Credit, College in the High School, and Workforce Running Start. The Coordinator will also develop and facilitate the delivery of career services for BBCC students which includes the development of content and training plans for a variety of career topics, plan and oversee job fairs and career events, and coordinate with area employers to establish student work-based learning opportunities.

This full-time, admin/exempt position is part of the Workforce Education (WFE) department and reports to the Dean of Workforce Education. This position is benefit and overtime eligible.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Advise potential and continuing Workforce Education students.
  • Provide continuing students with academic advising and educational planning, monitor their academic progress and success, and initiate interventions as appropriate.
  • Oversee BBCC’s participation in planning and implementation of job fairs and other career events, such as industry spotlights. Maintain and support industry contacts and relationships.
  • Develop and facilitate the delivery of comprehensive career services for all BBCC students.
  • Develop content, training plans, monthly/annual schedules, workshops, and other activities for a variety of career and soft skills topics including job search, communication, time management, interviewing, resume building, and more.
  • Provide education and career pathway navigation for students including outreach to high school and BBCC students.
  • Provide support in developing advisory committee membership.
  • Connect faculty/students with industry for tours, classroom visits, speakers, internships, and other WBL opportunities.
  • Coordinate CTE Dual Credit Program (CTE), College in the High School (CiHS), and Workforce Running Start (WRS) programs and processes.
  • Serve as the Workforce and CiHS Dual Credit contact for BBCC.
  • Coordinate, plan, conduct, and/or support professional development activities for secondary and postsecondary personnel involved with CTE, CiHS, and WRS dual enrollment programs.
  • Support coordination with area employers to establish and arrange tours, job shadows, mock interviews, and other experiences as needed.
  • Assist the Dean of Workforce Education with the development, implementation, assessment, and reporting of Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CLNA) strategies.
  • Actively participate in community activities and advisory boards as designated
  • Support coordinated efforts for the college to develop industry contacts.
  • Actively participate in committee work that promotes the goals of Workforce Education and the institution.
  • Participate in the Career Connected Learning activities with the North Central Education Service District (NCESD) as required.
  • Supervise and evaluate student workers and volunteers.

 

OTHER WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations
  • Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
  • Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
  • Conduct self in a professional manner and ensures the interaction with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive to the college’s values.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as may be required.

 

DUTIES OF THE POSITION REQUIRE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE IN, AND ABILITY TO:

  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing, including the ability to engage in one-on-one and in public forum conversations with students, parents, and the public.
  • Use technology, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, to accomplish daily work.
  • Work independently and reliably. Some hours outside of regular business hours may be required.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Think critically, problem solve, prioritize, ensure accuracy, and utilize sound judgment to make independent decisions in a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability or ability to learn within six (6) months of hire, to create accessible content in both electronic and print formats as appropriate to the position. Examples include Word/PDF documents and web/learning management system content.

 

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

At time of application, all candidates must possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and professional work experience as determined by the college.
  • Previous work experience assisting job seekers with honing job search skills, identifying and working toward career goals, finding suitable careers, boosting networking skills, and getting referrals to employers.
  • Working knowledge of office technology including Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; Zoom and other online communication tools.
  • A valid, unrestricted driver’s license from Washington or another state.
  • Current valid automobile insurance.
  • Experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical, and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience providing services to students in a college setting.
  • Minimum five years of experience demonstrating ability to implement projects in complex systems.
  • Knowledge of and experience applying government/organizational policies and regulations.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish fluency.
  • Bicultural experience.
