Post-Doctoral Research Associate - Physics

The Medium Energy Physics group at the University of Tennessee is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position in experimental nuclear physics. The successful candidate will join the group’s effort at Jefferson Lab (Newport News, VA) to perform Hall C Tagged Deep Inelastic Scattering experiments on Short-range Correlations and the EMC effect as well as the research and development of a Polarized He-3 target for use in CLAS12 Hall B for Spin physics program. This position will offer further opportunities to participate in any part of the group activities.

 



Qualifications

 

By the date of hire (target spring 2024), the candidate must have successfully defended their doctoral dissertation in experimental nuclear and particle physics.

The successful candidate will be expected to take the lead (including the supervision of graduate students) in the preparation, commissioning, and running of the experiments as well as data analysis. Target work will include designing, building, testing, and optimizing the performance of the Polarized-He-3 target using Metastability Exchange Optical Pumping. Experience with the analysis of electron scattering data is desirable.  Experience in polarized target work is a plus.
