Prison Instructor, College and Career Readiness (PT)
The following position is available at McDowell Technical Community College: Prison Instructor, College and Career Readiness (PT) Plan and facilitate lessons for adults in a close custody prison who are working on their high school equivalency. Focus on areas of Math, Writing, Reading, Social Studies and Science to prepare them to take the HiSet test. Additional instruction may be required in certificate programs.
Required: Minimum of Associate's Degree (any discipline); NCCCS recognized credential at time of hire or within 2 years of hire date; must pass background checks and training required by prison/jail facility; comfort level working with justice involved adults; and comfort with classroom technology.
Preferred: Previous teaching experience; and Bachelor's Degree in Education, Adult Education or Special Education or closely related field. Job is open until filled with hire date asap.
GENERAL RESPONSBILITIES
Plan and facilitate lessons for adults within a close custody prison to gain high school equivalency by following Adult Education Content Standards. Focus on areas of Math, Writing, Reading, Social Studies and Science to prepare to take the HiSet test to gain high school equivalency. Additional instruction may be required in certificate programs.
