Tim Hortons Foundation Camps (THFC) help youth from underserved communities achieve their full potential through multi-day, overnight camp experiences. Work Location

This role will be based out of our Tim Horton Camp Kentahten, in Campbellsville, KY, however, travel may be required from time to time to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.

 

Job Summary

Reporting into the Senior Manager, Camp Operations, this role has been updated to meet the Foundation's strategic prioritization of operational excellence in service of high impact, measurable youth development programs.

The Program Manager will provide leadership of the delivery of all programs at their assigned THFC location. This role will work collaboratively with the site-specific Senior Manager, Camp Operations to ensure a quality experience for participants. This role will ensure a focus on high quality program facilitation and delivery for maximum impact. This role will work directly with the camp operations and program innovation teams to ensure the highest quality experience for youth. This role will be responsible for engaging in the continuous improvement cycle at their location by regularly assessing program quality and implementing learnings to improve the quality of experience. This role will apply their knowledge of youth development, outdoor education, program quality systems, and demonstrated excellence in coaching and facilitation to provide direction, coaching and support to their direct reports and the youth we serve.

What would you be doing?

 

Program Quality and Delivery:

  • Conduct THFC program quality self-assessments through implementation and integration of the Weikart Centre's Camp Program Quality Assessment at assigned camp location, as directed by the program innovation team.
  • Implement learnings from program quality assessments as part of annual and micro (I.e., session by session) cycles of continuous improvement. This includes reviewing and analyzing data, making improvement plans, and putting plans into action, both at a site level and based on organizational focus.
  • Ensure training, programs, and activities are designed and delivered following TIMpact365 program quality, outcomes, and impact framework to ensure a high-quality camper experience and long-term impact across all program delivery models (I.e., summer, school, and partnerships).
  • Make recommendations and implement changes that support quality improvements. Identify and support implementation as required. Surface and share improvement strategies with colleagues.
  • Influence change management strategies to maximize adoption and implementation of new program curriculum and approaches.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and creativity through building outcome specific, engaging, creative, fun and interactive programs at site location.

 

Program Operations and Interdepartmental Collaboration:

  • Communicate regularly with Wellness team, Camper Support Specialist(s), and Senior Manager, Camp Operations to understand camper needs. Lead camp staff teams in supporting the needs of our youth while working in collaboration with the wellness team.
  • Work collaboratively with campers and families team to develop and implement camper support and engagement tactics as per the camper engagement strategy (ie: orientation meetings).
  • Support camper travel programs as per Senior Manager, Camp Operations and campers and families direction.
  • Develop program purchasing plan and arrange for the purchase of all program required equipment. Ensure program purchasing matches site budget guidelines.
  • Maintain and update program equipment inventory system.
  • Act as site specific point person for all program and youth-facing activities including wilderness trips when happening at site.
  • Steward relationships with school groups, community partners and other stakeholders.
  • Execute off-site program enhancements including school visits, community visits, virtual programming, orientation meetings etc. to increase program quality, youth engagement exercises as required
  • Establish collaborative, cross-functional relationships with all departments within the Foundation.

 

Risk Management:

  • Ensure all THFC program and operational standards and risk management practices are implemented as per Sr. Manager Camp Operations direction.
  • Support Sr. Manager Camp Operations with the completion of THFC program related audits. Document and follow up as required, in collaboration with Advisor, Program Standards.
  • Ensure compliance with governing body/association standards.
  • Ensure team is trained and signed-off on all relevant training checklists as per THFC program standards.
  • Ensure a clear understanding of Program team role in the site's Emergency Response Plan and train team accordingly.
  • Lead elevated risk management situations as they relate to program delivery and the program. team. Ensure collaboration with Senior Manager, Camp Operations when required.
  • Act as on-site Crisis Manager when the Senior Manager, Camp Operations is absent.
  • Lead training for program team. Ensure all training expectations established in the training standards are adhered to. Document as required.

 

People Management:

  • Recruit, onboard, train and manage ongoing performance of program coordinators and program staff team (includes seasonal).
  • Coach program coordinators and program staff team (includes seasonal) on best facilitation and youth development practices based on program quality assessments and data.
  • Manage achievement and development through coaching, feedback and full utilization of the Foundation's Learning and Achievement System.
  • Complete performance reviews as per established feedback cycle.

 

Does this sound like you?

  • University degree and/or college background in related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience in outdoor education, positive youth development and/or camping industry
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth ages 11 – 17
  • Demonstrated ability to create and sustain relationships with community partners
  • In-depth knowledge of strengths-based approaches to program design, practical infusion of equity frameworks to daily practice, and positive youth development models
  • Demonstrated excellence in program facilitation
  • Demonstrated understanding of program quality systems including assessment tools and implementation strategies
  • Demonstrated success in leading, building and coaching a team
  • Experience with inventory management and managing a budget
  • Experience with change management considered an asset
  • Creative, innovative thinker; ability to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment
  • Certifications (or the ability to obtain certifications) in the areas of Wilderness First Aid, Challenge Course Management, Lifeguarding, Climbing, High Ropes, Rafting etc. considered an asset
  • Ability to spend extended periods of time at camp and to work a 10/3 schedule during the summer program
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Acceptable Criminal Record Search
  • Legally able to work in the US i.e. has a valid social security number (SSN)
  • Ability to travel internationally
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable drivers abstract
