We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled post-doctoral researcher to join our cutting-edge research team in the development of advanced electrochemical power storage and conversion systems including advanced batteries, fuel cells and electrolyzers. The research aims to leverage experimental and computational study-based understanding of the interaction of transport (mass, charge and heat) with performance and durability of these systems.

Description: The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to advance the state-of-the-art in low temperature electrochemical power systems including electrolyzers, fuel cells and batteries.  The primary focus of this position will be on addressing the challenges related to enhancing performance and durability using a variety of experimental and computational approaches. The candidate will also be required to work with and supervise graduate students, prepare research reports, communicate with sponsors, and prepare high-quality scholarly work for publication in top journals.  Successful candidates will also be creative and develop their own unique research paths and proposals for submission to funding agencies or development into scholarly works.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

Leading funded research program: Perform duties and responsibilities assigned from the main existing funded programs in the lab.

Developing novel ideas and new proposals: Use the lab resources to develop new ideas and pathways for additional funding, intellectual property, and scholarly work unrelated to specific programs that are currently funded.

Mentoring and guiding graduate and undergraduate students: Help graduate and undergraduate students develop and overcome obstacles to complete all educational and research objectives.

Developing scholarly work: lead development of top quality publications.

Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with team members and external partners. Present research findings in conferences, workshops, and academic journals.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong background in control systems, robotics, and mechatronics.
  • Proficiency in programming (C/C++, Python, or similar languages).
  • Experience with embedded systems, real-time operating systems, and wireless communication.
  • Knowledge of image processing and computer vision is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated track record of research excellence through publications in reputable conferences and journals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and independently drive research projects.
  • Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English.

This post-doctoral position offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research at the forefront of energy technology. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and work in a stimulating and dynamic research environment. The position is initially offered for a one-year term, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.

Interested applicants are invited to submit their CV, cover letter, and contact information for three references to [mmench@utk.edu]. Applications will be accepted until position is filled.
