Department Description

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology is a large teaching and research unit within the College of Biological Sciences. The department is comprised of 32 faculty in addition to emeriti faculty, lecturers, specialists, researchers, visiting faculty, postdoctoral scholars, undergraduate and graduate students, and instruction, administrative and research staff.

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), serve as a departmental academic and HR personnel analyst for Molecular & Cellular Biology in the College of Biological Sciences. This position provides comprehensive personnel support to the chair, faculty, and CAO. Provide consultation, advice and planning in support of business processes, policies, and practices. Provide research, analysis and guidance related to personnel matters (staff/academic), including recruitment, classification, stipends, equities, employee and labor relations, training and development, merits, appraisals, academic appointments, merits and promotions and other general personnel actions. Collaborates with Shared Services Center (AUSS-C) and Dean’s Office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

·       Handle competing demands with frequent interruptions.

·       Work occasional overtime to meet operational needs and meet deadlines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

·       Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/ or equivalent experience/ training with AP practices, laws, regulations, and policies.

·       Experience performing the full range of academic personnel functions including policy interpretation in a higher education setting; merit and promotion; recruitment, selection and retention; classification and compensation administration; and employee and labor relations.

·       Experience in coordinating personnel appointments of senate and non-senate academics (postdocs, graduate students, visitors).

·       Experience maintaining a high degree of discretion, integrity, and sensitivity to confidentiality and privacy.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

·       Knowledge of payroll matters and demonstrated experience/ability to use Mathematical skills to perform payroll and general accounting calculations.

·       Critical thinking and applied problem-solving skills to research and analyze complex policy and/or problems related to academic personnel in an objective manner.

·       Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students and others and communication skills – writing and verbal. Knowledge of correct spelling, grammar, and excellent proofreading skills.
