The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is seeking a Posdoctoral Research Scholar. This person will Conduct research in a collaborative environment that encourages independent and creative ideas and approaches. The Post-doctoral scholar will be self-motivated and will be responsible for the experimental design, collecting and analysis or research data, maintaining log books, troubleshooting experiments, and training graduate students and research assistants. Will also be responsible for the preparation of manuscripts related to your work and keeping up-to-date with the literature.

Research led by Dr. Kal Parekh focuses on airway stem cell depletion as a mechanism for pulmonary allograft failure. The lab has developed a clinically relevant animal model of lung transplantation in the ferret. Orthotopically transplanted ferret lung allografts develop the full spectrum of inflammatory and fibrotic pathology that is seen in human allografts. Our lab leverages this model to investigate how impaired epithelial regeneration leads to fibrosis and to discover the mechanisms that lead to the depletion of endogenous airway stem cells in transplanted lungs. 

Candidates must have PhD, MD, or equivalent degree
