Position Summary

The selected candidate will work with members in the Kuo lab to perform drug discovery and disease mechanism studies of Alzheimer’s disease. Responsibilities include preparing recombinant proteins for in vitro and animal (mouse) studies. Experiments include, but not limited to, protein aggregation assays, cell viability quantification, mouse primary neuron isolation, mouse intracerebral injection and behavioral analysis, and immunohistological examination of mouse brain sections.

Detailed description of work/duties:

  • Apply, develop and execute strategies in induction and purification of high-quality hyperphosphorylated tau protein in E. coli
  • Analyze the cytotoxicity and neurotoxicity of hyperphosphorylated tau in vitro and in vivo 
  • Work closely with other project team members in tests of synthetic compounds for their efficacy in ameliorating the neurotoxicity of tau
  • Participate in brainstorming activities in support of the research  
  • Work cross-functionally with faculty collaborators, postdocs, and graduate students at MSU and other institutes
  • Assist in the preparation of formal reports to project team, patents, publications, and project planning

Required Degree

Doctorate -Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology


Minimum Requirements

PhD in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, neuroscience, or animal science


Desired Qualifications
  • 0 – 3 years of postdoctoral experience on related field
  • Sound knowledge of animal treatment and examination
  • Excellent working knowledge of recombinant protein preparation and characterization
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills
