Description of Work Unit
The Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources contributes to informed decision making and a broad based understanding of the ways in which humans’ value, use, and depend on the natural environment.
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Position Summary
The Postdoctoral fellow will join an interdisciplinary team on a recently awarded project to examine the social, cultural, historical and environmental processes that shape geographical patterns of language diversity. The project will use methods adapted from biogeography and pioneered by the research team in prior work on language diversity. The postdoctoral fellow will conduct the statistical analyses for the project, contribute to the dissemination of results via peer-reviewed publications, academic conferences and media outlets, and contribute to the development of a teaching unit for undergraduate courses focused on geographical pattens in language and cultural diversity.
Required Job Qualifications
  • A PhD in biogeography, macroecology, human geography, linguistics, or related disciplines completed by the start date
  • Demonstrated experience in geospatial analysis, and statistical modeling using R
  • Track record of academic writing and publications
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; The Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience working in collaborative, interdisciplinary research settings.
  • Demonstrated experience with structural equation modeling
  • Demonstrated abilities in the application of GIS
  • Demonstrated knowledge on the geography and evolution of human cultural diversity, including language diversity
  • Experience developing teaching materials for undergraduate courses
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
