The Director, Philanthropy develops and administers the Philanthropy program of Saint Joseph Health System and its member organizations. In so doing, works with administration in the establishment of annual goals, funding priorities, and fundraising strategies. Provides management and coordination of the daily operations of the department, including major gift fundraising and management of the SJHS Foundation board.

• Develops and recommends to the Chief Strategy & Development Officer for approval both short and long-range development plans, procedures, schedules and budgets for fund development activities.
• Coordinates the implementation of a comprehensive philanthropy program which will include an annual giving campaign, grateful patient program, major gift solicitation and planned giving, endowments, special events, promotion of deferred gifts and bequests, donor recognition activities and grants.
• Staffs the SJHS Foundation board and identifies and recruits volunteers to assist in the implementation of fund development strategies, activities and appeals.
• Promotes public awareness and visibility of the SJHS and its member organizations through active community involvement. Partners with regional operations staff to ensure the receipt, recording, acknowledgment, reporting and stewardship of gifts and pledges. Develops and implements an effective program of internal and external fund development communications.
• Coordinates, supervises, and evaluates the performance of the Foundation associates. Manages subordinates in respective department(s). Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these department(s).

 

Requirements:

Education: Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management, Non-profit Management, Communications, Business Administration, or a closely related field.

Licensure: None.

Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively more responsible, comprehensive fund development experience, preferably in a healthcare organization. Ten or more years preferred.
