Job Description


A post-doctoral research associate position is open in the laboratory of Dr. Isabelle Derré in the department if Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology, at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, in Charlottesville, VA, USA.

The position is funded through the U19 collaborative grant - Structure, Immunity and Microbiome: Human 3D biomimetics cervicovaginal models for Sexually Transmitted Infections (SIM-STI). The overall SIM-STI project regroups four laboratories and integrates bioengineering, cell biology, microbiology, microbiome, and immunology, to study host-pathogen interactions. The present position will investigate the effects of sex hormones on Chlamydia trachomatis infections.

Successful candidates will be selected based on the following qualifications:

  • a PhD in biological sciences

  • first author publication(s)

  • experience in conducting experiments in a research laboratory, preferably related to host-pathogen interactions, cell biology or reproductive biology

  • experience in conducting research in a BSL2 environment

  • experience in tissue culture, preferably with primary cells

  • experience in confocal microscopy

  • able to coordinate and collaborate with members of the other teams involved in the SIM-STI project

  • strong organizational skills, working concurrently on several projects and meeting deadlines

  • high level of motivation and intellectual and technical capacity to drive a research project

  • excellent oral and written communication skills

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
