Position Description

The DNA Learning Center (DNALC) of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has an immediate full-time educator position available at the Dolan DNA Learning Center (DNALC) in Cold Spring Harbor. The selected candidate will join a small, influential group recognized worldwide as a leader in creating and disseminating new methods in genetics education, including the fields of genomics, bioinformatics, and data science. Position Responsibilities

Providing hands-on genetics and molecular biology instruction to precollege students visiting the DNALC for academic year field trips, summer camps, and extended research projects;

  • Presenting public tours.
  • Delivering in-school instruction.
  • Assisting with student research programs.
  • Conducting teacher training.
  • Developing teaching modules.

Position Requirements

Strong candidates will have teaching experience and a background in biology. Teaching certification is a plus, but not required. Postdoctoral scientists who would like to pursue teaching careers are also encouraged to apply—especially those with experience in personal genomics, DNA barcoding, metabarcoding, or bioinformatics. The position demands a motivated self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team, with excellent writing, computer, and communication skills.
Flexible scheduling will require some weekend work. Some travel to DNALC facilities in East Harlem, Sleepy Hollow, Passaic County (NJ), Brooklyn and to local schools will be required. 
Education Required: Undergraduate Degree
Experience Required: 1-3 years

The salary range for this role is $58,000-78,000.  The salary range or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining a base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity).
