Assistant Professor in Biochemistry

Job Description


The Department of Biological Sciences within the College of Science at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Biochemistry. Candidates should describe in their application materials how they will address current challenges in biochemistry and how their future plans relate to advances in biotechnology, medicine, agriculture, and/or renewable sources of energy, aligning with the Scholarship First Agenda (https://www.lsu.edu/scholarship-first/) of LSU. Additional collaborative opportunities at LSU exist with the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, the School of Veterinary Medicine, the College of Engineering, the College of Agriculture, and the College of Coast and Environment. Successful candidates will be expected to establish and maintain a vigorous, independent, extramurally funded research program and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in areas encompassed by biochemistry. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences or a related field, postdoctoral experience, and a record of successful independent research.

Duties Include:
50% Develop and maintain an independent and extramurally funded research program.

50% Teach undergraduate biochemistry. In addition, the candidate will contribute to graduate-level teaching in the biochemical subdiscipline of his/her expertise and direct/supervise graduate students. Participation in service activities pertaining to the mission of the Department and the advancement of the profession is also expected.

Additional Data: This position does require Vehicle Operation. Due to this requirement, candidates must maintain a valid driver's license and are subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Biological Sciences or related field with specific post-doctoral training in biochemical research.

Candidate should possess:

Excellence in research that complements or extends existing research strengths in the department and has the potential to attract extramural funding.
Commitment to excellence in teaching. Must demonstrate potential or evidence of ability to perform well at both graduate and undergraduate levels and to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses or seminars.
