The Department of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology, in the College of Medicine at The Ohio State University, invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. The successful candidates will be aligned with The Ohio State University Gene Therapy Institute (https://gti.osu.edu/ ) and be dedicated to the use of gene therapy in the treatment of human disease. The successful applicant will either develop or have an established research program in gene therapy depending on rank of hire. Individuals with experience in all aspects of gene therapy are encouraged to apply. Novel delivery methods including artificial viruses and novel capsids are of interest as well as studies on specific disorders both neurological disorders, disorder of the eye and ear. Novel approaches to any disorder are also encouraged. The Gene Therapy Institute has expertise in treatment of neurological disorders, ophthalmologic disorders, and audiological disorders. The department has expertise in Spinal Muscular Atrophy, including the development of gene therapy in collaboration with Nationwide children’s (Kaspar Lab and now Meyer lab). The department also has complementing expertise in RNA biology, epigenetics, neurodegenerative disorders, structural biology, and metabolism. The department envisions an interactive environment that moves therapies forward to the clinic.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. and postdoctoral research experience. A proven record of accomplishments in gene therapy-related research and a strong publication record are required. Applicants at the Associate and Full Professor levels should have current federal funding for their research program. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies; Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.

Tenure faculty (regardless of rank) - persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty member’s tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus; obligations will include research, service and/or teaching or clinical practice.  These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.
