Posting Summary
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Nurse Practitioner. Reporting to the Medical Director of Student Health this position requires a registered nurse, licensed to practice in the State of New Jersey, and certified as an advanced practice nurse with prescription privileges.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Serve as an integral member of the clinical team
  • Provides primary clinical care services, using a holistic framework, to our diverse and vibrant student body
  • Works independently in a fast-paced setting

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Masters degree with a major in nursing in a program designed to teach the delivery of primary health care: plus completion of graduate level credit course in pharmacology from a school accredited by any national accrediting agency or if graduated more than five (5) years previously, thirty hours of continuing professional education in pharmacology, either option must meet the approval of the N.J. Board of Nursing

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Registered nurse in New Jersey. CPR or willing to obtain
  • Certification in specialty area at highest level, eligibility for certification and who has applied to take the first available examination and will practice as an advanced practice nurse “applicant” until successfully completing the examination
  • State of NJ certification for prescribing drugs and other devices or wiling to obtain upon employment
  • One year experience in primary health care delivery preferred. Will consider a new graduate of a nurse practitioner program who has previous nursing experience, pending successful certification by examination
  • Ability to understand and communicate in the English language. Ability to understand and write in medico-legal technical language
  • Ability to physically assist clients as necessary, may entail lifting clients, pushing wheelchairs, etc.
  • Ability to cope with interruptions, multiple tasks, and stress of dealing with multiple clients
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a College Health setting or in adolescent health care
  • Interest in research activities
Equipment Utilized
  • Computerized Health Records (currently Medicat)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, excel spreadsheets, Outlook, formulating reports and documents for quality improvement, medical equipment, electronic medical record, email, internet. EKG Machine.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Typical medical center and office environment.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to receive an updated (bivalent) vaccine dose.
