Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Medical Records Technician for Bayside State Prison, located in Leesburg, NJ. The Medical Records Technician will be responsible and accountable for the maintenance of paper and electronic health records. Organizes and maintains a system of files and records concerning diagnosis, treatments, admissions, and discharges. Compiles, verifies, types, and files medical records of inmates within New Jersey Department of Corrections. On an ongoing basis, enforces security and ensures the accessibility of clinical information through the chart management. Uses this knowledge to assemble records. Tracks medical records requests. Completes disability requests for information. Assists UCHC staff with the completion of any chart deficiencies.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Ensures the confidentiality of all medical records information.
  • Performs all clerical duties related to the assembling and maintaining of paper and electronic medical records, including initiating records for new inmates.
  • Maintains accountability for the location of any medical record on file, log in and out all record jackets received or sent out.
  • Maintains all files in established systems with all materials properly arranged and affixed within filing material as received.
  • Directly responsible for pulling records and deliver for clinical use; refiles record upon completion of use.
  • Reviews medical records for completeness, assembles records into standard order, and files records in designated areas according to applicable alphabetic and numeric filing systems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Clerical experience in relational database processes, and advanced computer literacy, in Microsoft Suite and Access.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Valid NJ Drivers License with the use of own vehicle to travel between DOC/UCHC sites.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent is required with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in medical records or physician practice setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Problem Oriented Medical Record (SOAP) or similar system is preferred.

Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Able to function in a stressful environment and relates well to patients, security staff and healthcare team members.
  • A generally crisis oriented, secure environment working with inmates, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening behavior.
  • Entering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional Officers.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
