Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Research Strategic Intelligence Analyst will be a critical member of the UMD Research Development Office (RDO) supporting the RDO mission to grow the volume and visibility of the UMD Research Enterprise. Reporting to the Sr. Proposal Development Manager, the Analyst will work with colleagues in the RDO as well as those across the institution to support strategic research initiatives and data-driven decision making to position the University of Maryland and its faculty for success. This person will develop a portfolio of research strategic intelligence products to aid leadership in making informed decisions regarding strategic research areas and funding opportunities, and assess outcomes from significant research investments. The Analyst will be charged to provide analyses on federal and foundation funding sponsors, identify areas of strength and opportunity for UMD research utilizing available data and human intelligence, and present and advance actionable recommendations utilizing current best practices in the field of strategic intelligence. These efforts will ensure the delivery of research strategic intelligence analysis and solutions to the Vice President for Research, leadership of the Research Development Office, and other campus units.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree.

Experience:

Three (3) years of related experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and actively to identify gaps and patterns in information, form conclusions, and make actionable recommendations to stakeholders and other relevant parties.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and the drive to explore new topics.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated skill in navigating and analyzing returns from databases and other software applications to create unique document deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience in the Microsoft Office and Google suite.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferences:

  • Master’s degree and one year of related experience;
  • Ability to work across a complex organization to extract data and human intelligence to inform reports.
  • Ability to quickly pivot and manage competing requests for analysis.
  • Ability to create compelling, informative documents that reflect the stakeholder’s needs and preferences.
  • Familiarity with the Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP) organization.
  • Effective at working with and harmonizing inputs from diverse stakeholders.
  • University experience.
