Classification Title | Postdoctoral Researcher |
Working Title | Postdoctoral Research Associate |
Brief Position Overview | The Institute on Ecosystems at Montana State University (Bozeman, MT) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to develop an assessment of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. The postdoc will work directly for the Greater Yellowstone Network – National Park Service and in collaboration with agency partners through the Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee. The assessment will consist of utilizing existing natural resource data from public lands across the ecosystem while using agency management plans, reports, other climate assessments, and on-going work to inform this effort. The individual will determine the feasibility of using existing data, focus analyses of status where data are available but not yet summarized across the ecosystem, and identify gaps for resources that do not have information available to assess. The individual will coordinate the selection of a select few resources to conduct a climate vulnerability analysis, which will entail evaluating a resource’s sensitivity to climate and using that information to make forecasts of future resource condition using climate projections. This may also include developing climate pivot points or other quantitative assessments of likely future conditions (i.e., are conditions of the resources approaching a point of management concern) to help inform management. This work will be done in the context of the Climate Smart and Resist – Accept – Direct (RAD) frameworks to help guide management goals and conservation strategies. The individual will help to lead conversations related to this assessment at the GYE Biennial Science Conference, prepare products that can be used by managers and the scientific community, and identify the next steps to ensure future momentum. The assessment will be used by the Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee to inform their strategic priorities. |
