The Federation is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual with a variety of skill sets who wants to join a team working to build a new model of 21st century and next generation Federation engagement.

 

ROLE SUMMARY

The Philanthropy Associate will provide support to the 32 supporting foundations housed at the Federation and Endowment Fund, and the grantmaking that is done through them. The Philanthropy Associate will assume responsibility for transactions related to donor relationships from beginning to end, at times performing administrative and operational tasks. The Supporting Foundations team works with each foundation’s board of directors to complete annual activity requirements and engage with them on grants to donor-directed opportunities with guidance and content expertise from the Philanthropy Advisor Team. The Philanthropy Associate will support the delivery of grantmaking opportunities and will also be responsible for assisting with projects in the development of the business of the Philanthropy Department at the Federation. This team support will be assigned depending on areas of interest, expertise and need and may include supporting the development of client-centric service models, supporting the development of programs, and the delivery of events related to client experience, as well as supporting due diligence on new partners, products, and services for our clients.

Support of business development, educational and community-building opportunities with prospective and current philanthropy clients is critical as the Federation and Endowment Fund sets out to become a pre-eminent philanthropy advisory practice in the Jewish world, a trusted advisor to generations of Jewish philanthropists, and a pacesetter in philanthropy.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
This role does not have any managerial responsibilities.

 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages a variety of supporting foundation functions, carrying responsibility for delivery, in coordination with other colleagues, of legal compliance requirements, philanthropic goals, and grantmaking.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of client relationships, including review of history and other information-gathering ahead of annual (or sometimes more frequent) foundation board meetings.
  • Delivers, according to a scheduled calendar, supporting foundation meetings, including all logistical and administrative pieces. This may include scheduling across multiple calendars, meeting and grant docket preparation, obtaining grant reporting, obtaining financials and investment reporting and assists the Director to set the agenda for the foundation’s key philanthropy goals and objectives across the year.
  • Works with existing and potential grantees in the Jewish and general communities which may include due diligence, surveying appropriateness of unsolicited proposals, grantee research, grant proposal review, and in-person or virtual site visits.
  • Provides input, programmatic and administrative support to the team regarding opportunities for new partnerships and collaboration.
  • Maintain visibility on Federation’s priorities and funding areas and can ably represent Federation as a member of the larger team.
  • Works with the Philanthropy Team to manage a community catalogue of Jewish and general giving opportunities for internal and external programs, programmatic content, collaborative funding opportunities and educational events as needed.

 

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES)

  • Knowledge of and appreciation for the Jewish community, its customs and practices preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments and disciplines to deliver projects focused on delivering excellence to clients.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team approach, and experience in communicating specialized information orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and meet objectives and performance standards.
  • Ability/comfort level to work with a broad cross-section of individuals from the community.
  • Requires occasional attendance/participation at events in the evening or on weekends.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 1-3 years of direct customer service/client service experience, in any multifaceted, complex environment.
  • Experience supporting the management of philanthropic grant programs preferred.
  • Experience working with lay leaders (community volunteers) and in maintaining healthy lay/professional relationships preferred.
