Job Summary

Ward 86 is an ambulatory care clinic which provides care for ~2,600 HIV-positive and at-risk HIV negative individuals at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG). Ward 86 has expanded its footprint by providing care to the city’s most vulnerable population of patients living with HIV and those at-risk of HIV using a drop-in model on Ward 81 South. Ward 81 South is now the location of the POPUP Clinic and the Heath Access Point (HAP) Clinic along with the Bridge Clinic at Family Health Center.

Under direct supervision of the Ward 86 Clinical Pharmacist, and with guidance from the Lead Pharmacy Technicians, and guided by the procedures of Ambulatory Care Services at ZSFG, we are seeking a pharmacy technician who will function as the contact for prescription refills; obtains prior authorizations for prescriptions; processes medication deliveries; keeps inventory of medications stocked in clinic; facilitates injectable medication visit reminders; coordinates and facilitates medications orders, deliveries, administrations, and inventory; and performs other duties as assigned.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

 

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

ABOUT WARD 86 CLINIC
Ward 86, the HIV/AIDS Clinic at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) campus has been a leader and innovator in field of HIV care since the beginning of the epidemic. Ward 86 is the largest clinic providing primary medical care for people living with HIV for the San Francisco Health Network (SFHN) and also provide preventive services to patients at-risk for HIV infection, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).  Ward 86 provides care to approximately 2400 patients living with HIV, with over 22,000 clinical encounters a year. Services are offered through a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach, addressing primary medical and HIV care, urgent care, mental health evaluation and treatment, substance use assessment, treatment and referrals, HIV prevention services, and HIV specialty care needs. Ward 86 has expanded its footprint by providing care to the city’s most vulnerable population of patients living with HIV and those at-risk of HIV using a drop-in model on Ward 81 South. Ward 81 South is now the location of the POPUP Clinic and the Heath Access Point (HAP) Clinic along with the Bridge Clinic at Family Health Center.

ABOUT DIVISION OF HIV, INFECTIOUS DISEASES AND GLOBAL MEDICINE
The Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is an internationally recognized global leader in clinical care, research, and education. With its home-base located at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG), the Division has been ranked as the top facility in the country for AIDS care since 1983. The Division’s work is featured frequently in the media, and it is often visited by numerous international, national, state, and local dignitaries and delegations. The Division consists of approximately 36 faculty members, 11 fellows/postdoctoral scholars and 170 academic and staff employees.  It is the largest Division of the Department of Medicine (DOM) at ZSFG, with a total expenditure budget of approximately $52 million dollars.


Required Qualifications

  • Active Licensed Pharmacy Technician by the California Board of Pharmacy and in good standing
  • One-plus (1+) years experience in a Specialty Pharmacy and/or in a retail/community pharmacy, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the positions
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both over the telephone and in person
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; Ability to work effectively with a large, diverse population including maintaining good relationship between Pharmacy and Ambulatory clinics
  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment and work under constant pressure
  • Ability to use good judgment in responding to or referring questions by patients, nurses, physicians, and other professional personnel
  • Knowledge, skills, and ability to perform basic computer entries
  • Math skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two-plus (2+) years experience in a Specialty Pharmacy and/or in a retail/community pharmacy
  • Experience in submitting prior authorizations and or patient assistance programs

License/Certification

  • Active Licensed Pharmacy Technician by the California Board of Pharmacy and in good standing
