Job Description


The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia is seeking a Lab Specialist or Lab and Research Technician 1 ​in Dr. Kristen Naegle's laboratory to work on a synthetic toolkit for producing phosphoproteins and phosphopeptides.

The Naegle Lab is a vibrant team of undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and lab staff that seek to help develop approaches to further our understanding of cell signaling in healthy and diseased states.

The new Lab Specialist or Laboratory Research Technician will become a member of an NCI-funded technology development project, which involves the recombinant production of proteins and phosphoproteins in E. coli using a patented technology developed by The Naegle Lab

Minimum Qualifications:

- Lab Specialist

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biomedical engineering, or a related field is required.

  • 3 years of experience. 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.

- Lab and Research Technician 1

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • At least 1 year of lab experience, which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An ideal candidate would have relevant experience in wet lab experimental biology relating to protein production and protein analysis.

  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, the ability to follow protocols and analyze experiments, the ability to work well within a team, and an understanding of the scientific process.

  • Those Interested in training for independent career paths can take the opportunity to participate in manuscript writing, independent experimental design, and independent projects within the umbrella of science related to understanding phosphorylation in signaling and cancer.

This position will remain open until filled.  The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.  A completed pre-employment health screen is required for this position prior to employment.

Anticipated Hiring Range based on education and experience.
