Kaleidoscope Charter High School is a free and independent public school chartered
by the North Carolina State Board of Education. Opening in August, 2019,
Kaleidoscope Charter High School is the first student-centered high school in the
Research Triangle area.
At KCHS, our engaging, student-focused pedagogy is designed to ensure that
Kaleidoscope is the kind of high school that every student wants to attend. We will
open with approximately 230 ninth and tenth grade students in 2019, and grow to 550
students in all four grades by 2022. With a projected 17:1 average student-to-teacher
ratio, students will enjoy individualized programming and attention from our caring and
talented faculty and staff.

Position Description:
Kaleidoscope Charter High School has begun a search for an exceptional
Director/Head of School.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Significant high school classroom experience
  • A graduate degree in Education Administration
  • Prior experience in school administration
  • North Carolina School Administrator Principal License
  • Experience opening a school
  • Experience as an administrator in a North Carolina Charter School
  • A philosophy of education that is consistent with a whole child, studentcentered approach

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as educational leader of Kaleidoscope Charter High School
  • Implement and champion the mission and philosophy of Kaleidoscope

Charter High School with students, families, staff, and the community

  • Implement governance policies as established by the Board of Directors
  • Conduct the hiring, supervision, leadership, and evaluation of faculty and

staff

  • Oversee student recruitment, admission, and lottery procedures
  • Facilitate positive relationships between students, staff, parents,

community volunteers, and the board

  • Provide and/or lead meaningful professional development opportunities for

staff and faculty

  • Promote a culture of learning, cooperation, and kindness among staff,

faculty, and the student body

  • Oversee the business functions of the school including preparing an

annual operating budget in conjunction with the board and business
manager

  • Oversee the scheduling of school functions and activities
  • Oversee facility management including school safety programs
  • Serve as a non-voting member of the board, attend all board meetings,

and prepare all reports and information requested by the board

  • In consultation with the board, make recommendations and decisions

regarding disciplinary action and dismissal of staff

  • Ensure compliance with the KCHS Charter, North Carolina State Board of

Education, and applicable government laws and regulations

  • Foster a positive relationship with other schools in the area and the

community at large

  • Assist in fund development by communicating with prospective donors,

applying for grants, and serving as an ambassador of Kaleidoscope
