The candidate, located in the Interfacial Processes Group will use a combination of in-house capabilities (e.g., scanning probe microscopy, optical holographic imaging, scanning electron microscopy) and X-ray based tools (e.g., X-ray reflectivity, imaging).

The work involves performing experiments, the interpretation of experimental data, and the presentation of results at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed literature.

Position Requirements

  • This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in physics, materials science, chemistry, or geochemistry at the Ph.D. degree level (with a concentration in areas such as X-ray science or interfacial science), with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience

  • Considerable knowledge of interfacial geochemistry, experience with in situ and operando studies and associated wet-laboratory activities (sample preparation), and programming for data analysis

  • Good skills in oral and written communication with a record of publication and external recognition

  • Experience with synchrotron x-ray based measurements to probe structure and reactivity (e.g., X-ray reflectivity, X-ray imaging) is desired
