Job Description Summary:
The Post-Doctoral Fellow will be working in the Metabolism and Cancer Laboratory which aims to characterize the molecular relationship between obesity and cancer and identify new strategies for intervention. This person will perform various research duties including tissue culture, histology, mouse diet and xenograft studies, tissue harvesting, RT-PCR, confocal imaging, protein analysis and molecular cloning. A strong background in molecular biology and experience handling mice is required.
The research is housed in modern laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC research community.
Job Description:

Required Qualifications:

Education: PhD degree

Work Experience:

  • Experience with animal handling, mouse blood and organ collection, molecular cloning, cell culture, immunoblot analysis, immunohistochemistry staining, PCR, and RNA extraction.

  • Experience writing publications on whole body and cell metabolism.

  • Previous experience with molecular cell biology and animal experiments

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Physiology or Molecular and Cellular Biology.

Work Experience:

  • Experience with studies of cellular metabolism, including Seahorse.

  • Experience with Mouse in vivo diet studies, xenografting, tumor monitoring.

  • Experience with Tissue harvesting, RT-PCR, confocal imaging, protein analysis and molecular cloning experience.

  • Experience in molecular cloning, protein biochemistry, microscopy and knowledge on obesity and cancer.

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Collection and analysis of data for publications and planning future experiments.

  • Organized record keeping of data from research.

  • Actively participate in successful planning, execution, publication, and presentation of experiments.

  • Perform interpretation of experimental results and analysis of data.

  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals based on experimental results.

  • Routine lab maintenance and animal model generation and maintenance.

  • Work independently in the design and performance of experiments, making graphs, keeping statistics, and interpretation and dissemination of data.

  • Conduct research independently and with a team.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
