One postdoctoral researcher will be hired to work primarily on a Gates Foundation project related to novel delivery approaches for increased iron absorption. The scholar will assist in the synthesis of iron chlorophyllin derivatives, product purification (via crystalization or preparatory HPLC), product characterization (via LC-MS and NMR), and scale-up for animal and human studies. The candidate will also analyze biological samples collected following in vitro and in vivo experiments, to understand novel chlorophyll derivative metabolism, using LC-HRMS lipidomics and metabolomics techniques.  We expect the successful candidate to present project results and his or her own research at our weekly meetings and grant-specific meetings, participate in the drafting and editing of reports, drafting and editing of grant proposals, and attend at least one scholarly conference each year. As a part of the mentoring experience, the postdoctoral scholar will also gain experience mentoring junior trainees, successful lab organization, managing lab safety, and analytical instrument maintenance. 

50% iron chlorophyll derivative compound synthesis, purification, and characterization activities with analytical equipment; lipidomics and metabolomics LC-HRMS experiments following in vivo and in vitro experiments.

35% data analysis and interpretation, drafting of manuscripts, drafting and editing of reports, drafting and editing of grant proposals

15% mentoring of junior trainees; presentations at lab meetings, regional meetings, or international metings; assisting with lab organizational and safety management and instrument maintenance
