Housed in a historic art deco building, the Armory Art Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, provides art classes for artists of all ages and abilities, exhibitions, art salons, lectures, and special events. Nearly 100 courses, held in 12 state-of-the-art studios, are offered each year in ceramics, digital arts, drawing, jewelry, painting, printmaking, fibers, sculpture, welding, and wood turning.

Over the past three decades, the Armory Art Center has:

  • taught art classes to thousands of emerging artists of all ages and cultures,
  • exhibited art in hundreds of shows,
  • given workshops taught by national and international visiting master artists,
  • provided summer art camp for thousands of young people, and
  • given new artists-in-residents from around the United States and abroad the opportunity to hone their craft while teaching classes.

The Armory looks to a long future of enhancing artistic life in the Palm Beaches and is seeking a dynamic CEO to lead the way.

The mission of the Armory Art Center is to inspire the creation and experience of art. The Armory’s vision is to become a leading artistic and cultural center.

This position is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in being a driving force behind the organization’s anticipated growth. While day-to-day oversight is essential, we don’t expect our next CEO to be solely a “caretaker”- we want someone prepared to lead the charge based on developing and implementing a new five-year strategic plan. The Armory Art Center’s CEO will represent and be the “face” of our organization. Some of the qualities we seek in our next CEO include:

Experience

The ideal candidate will have executive-level experience in the public or private sector, and a track record providing overall management and direction, including financial oversight, day-to-day operations, marketing, community relations, and, if in an arts-related organization, artistic direction and vision. More specifically:

  • Working knowledge of the cultural arts, including grant-makers and other funding sources. Experience applying for and receiving public and private grants, grant administration, and reporting. Familiarity with local funding sources is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial reporting, analysis, and forecasting, including budget creation and oversight.
  • Experience hiring, inspiring, and supervising staff and guiding their professional development.
  • Fundraising and donor development experience (capital campaign management experience is a plus.
  • Positive and professional experience working with boards of directors and an understanding of board governance, including developing and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Experience creating, developing, and implementing innovative and successful programs.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and 10 - 15 years of broad management experience with a minimum of 5 years as a senior executive (nonprofit experience preferred).

Skills and Abilities

  • Sophisticated technology user, including accounting, CRM, virtual meeting technology, time management applications, and software suites such as MS Office, Google G-Suite, and other applications. Understands the possibilities for integrating various applications to maximize the efficiency of the organization’s workflow and systems.
  • Ability to analyze, understand, and adapt to funding and programming trends.
  • Excellent organizing skills, including time management, orchestrating and directing people to achieve a common goal or task, and designing and overseeing systems to efficiently manage the organization’s records for all departments (such as Finance, HR, and Programs).
  • Advanced and empathic listening skills.
  • Strong organizational and people management skills- knows when and how to delegate tasks and plan effectively to achieve the best results.

Salary and Benefits

The Chief Executive Officer is an exempt position and offers a salary range of $99,000 to $120,000, commensurate with skills and experience. In addition, a generous benefits package includes health insurance, vacation time, holidays, and additional benefits in addition to the above.
