Job Description:

The University of Florida's Department of Biostatistics (https://biostat.ufl.edu/ ) is accepting applications for a fully funded postdoctoral associate position. This position, available immediately, focuses on developing mathematical modeling, statistical analysis and machine learning methods to analyze the transmission and control of infectious diseases.  This work is part of an ongoing effort to model infectious disease transmission and control for current and emerging infectious disease threats including pandemic influenza, Ebola, COVID-19, cholera, dengue and others.  This new position will be part of research efforts in The Center for Advanced Epidemic Analytics and Predictive Modeling Technology that is developing mathematical models for the analysis, prediction and control of emerging infectious disease threats with the US Centers for Disease Control and the R&D Blueprint for Emerging Infectious Disease Threats at the World Health Organization.  In addition, the position will be part of the ongoing research in the Department in this area, as well as the Emerging Pathogens Institute at the UF.  Key responsibilities for the postdoctoral associate position include data and mathematical analysis of infectious disease threats, manuscript writing, research presentation at conferences, and assistance with grant applications.

UF Biostatistics: The Department of Biostatistics (https://biostat.ufl.edu/ ) is strategically situated within the College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP) and the College of Medicine. The department is ranked #11 in Biostatistics Programs at Public Universities by U.S. News & World Report. Currently, the department has 28 full-time faculty. Faculty members are jointly appointed to create synergies and collective strength, resulting in a competitive research profile and highly trained students who receive exceptional exposure to diverse expertise. Our faculty and students have received numerous national awards in research and mentoring and are committed to excellence in training. The department offers an PhD, Master of Science, and concentration in the MPH program, and currently has 40+ PhD students. All trainees of PhD graduates are placed into tenure-track faculty, government, and industry positions.

Expected Salary:

$56,484 annually, commensurate with experience levels and in accordance with current NIH postdoctoral salary guidelines.

Minimum Requirements:

A PhD in Biostatistics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Statistics, mathematics or a related quantitative field is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with infectious disease modeling, including agent-based modeling.
  • Prior experience with analytic methods for infectious diseases.
