Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.

Mountain Empire Community College's mission is to provide our region with accessible, quality higher education, workforce training, and community programs to ensure an educated population and globally competitive workforce. Full-time enrollment averages 1,500 full time students with more than 3,000 total head count. The student population is 39% male, 61% female, with a minority population of 6%. Sixty-nine percent of students are under the age of 25.

MECC is located in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, in the heart of the Appalachian mountains. The community features quality medical and education facilities and diverse retail and recreation opportunities, while offering low crime rates and a low cost of living. The region is progressive in its economic resources, focusing on the development of a new economy in advanced manufacturing, technology, and adventure tourism. In addition, the College recognizes and celebrates the region's extraordinary cultural heritage, hosting an annual festival highlighting Appalachian traditions which draws visitation of more than 20,000 annually.

Mountain Empire Community College invites applications for adjunct instructors to teach in the Division of Business and Information Technology. Salary is based on the academic preparation and work experience of the applicant and is determined according to the VCCS Adjunct Pay Schedule.

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom or online environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.
Minimum Qualifications:
Teaching Effectiveness, Academic Preparation, and/or Related Occupational Experience requirements based upon criteria in the VCCS-29: Normal Minimum Criteria for Each Faculty Rank.

Must demonstrate ability to deliver coursework electronically in an online environment and utilizing multiple teaching strategies as well as in-person instruction.
Preferred Qualifications:
Wide range of coursework in the area of instruction.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to incorporate technology into instruction.
