The Horticulture and Landscape Architecture department strives to discover, apply, and disseminate knowledge and technology while developing future leaders in the state, the nation, and the world. Position Summary
The successful candidate will establish an externally funded research program with global and/or national relevance on breeding, genetics, and/or biotechnology of horticulture crops (e.g. ornamentals, fruits, vegetables, etc). Focus of the research will depend on the incumbent’s expertise and interest, but should have an emphasis on plant improvement to address grand challenges such as climate resiliency, sustainability, and human health, and could lead to development of technology and biology that will enable advancements in breeding programs. This position is expected to have significant interactions with horticulture stakeholders and will contribute to student training in plant breeding, genetics, and/or biotechnology. The incumbent will work with other plant scientists at CSU to determine appropriate course contributions to the plant breeding and genetics program.
Potential research areas could include (but are not limited to) horticulture breeding, germplasm improvement, comparative genomics, quantitative genetics, propagation and tissue culture technology, plant biotechnology and gene editing, and/or high-throughput phenotyping platforms.

Required Job Qualifications
  • A PhD in plant science, plant breeding, plant genetics, horticulture, agronomy, or related discipline;
  • A record of publications in peer reviewed journals;
  • Ability to communicate effectively;
  • Commitment to DEIJ as explained by CSU’s Principles of Community .
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Expertise in plant breeding, genetics, and/or biotechnology;
  • Postdoctoral research experience;
  • Evidence of grantsmanship;
  • Evidence of mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students or other mentees;
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in effective and inclusive teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral researchers;
  • Evidence of collaborations with and/or outreach to growers, commodity groups, and industry.
