THE POSITION

The Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual for a part time teaching assignment in Fire and Emergency Technology for Compton College. Responsibilities include teaching a variety of subjects related to Fire and Emergency Technology, not limited to fire training, fire prevention, fire suppression, emergency medical technology, and coordination/instruction in the fire academy. Coordinate the Fire and Emergency Technology program on a released-time basis, which may vary from year-to-year. Representative duties of the assignment include: liaison with other colleges, the State Fire Marshal's Office and local fire agencies; evaluation of instructional staff; assisting with record-keeping functions; and ensuring mandated changes in regulations are implemented. May include weekend assignments. Participation as a faculty member includes faculty meetings, student activities and office hours.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

A teaching demonstration will be required during the interview process. Offer and acceptance of employment is subject to verification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), transcripts, fingerprint results, and tuberculosis examination as required. Candidates selected for employment must agree to be fingerprinted, submit certification of completion of the Tuberculosis Risk Assessment and/or examination, provide proof of eligibility for employment in the United States, and present a valid social security card upon hire.

 

COMPENSATION

HOURLY RANGE: $41.28 - $72.27 (depending upon education and experience)

Part-time faculty members are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District.

 

 

Required Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree and 2 years full-time equivalent Fire and Emergency Technology experience: OR

Associate's degree and 6 years full-time equivalent Fire and Emergency Technology experience: OR

The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above, must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR

Valid California Community College Credential in appropriate subject. AND

Certified in the state of California as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or licensed as a paramedic, registered nurse, and/or physician.

Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of college students.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience as a sworn fire department employee with more than ten five (5) years of experience.

Partnerships with related program industry members and advisory committees.

Ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods.

Ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles.

Ability to thrive in a team environment as a member of and an instructional team.

Ability to utilize technology in and outside of the classroom, including online/hybrid teaching experience.

Instructor Certification with Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) and/or International Fire Services Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Pro Board.

Fire service/public safety training center instructional experience teaching Fire Service Training and Education Program (FSTEP), California Fire Service Training and Education System (CFSTES), and/or IFSAC courses.
