Description:

The lab, located in the College of Pharmacy building at the University of Illinois Chicago, is broadly involved in characterization of cell and molecular mechanisms regulating human pathologies. Mechanisms regulating metastatic progression and chemoresistance of high grade serous ovarian carcinoma is the major research direction. Within the scope of this line of study, we are interested in the role of chemokine receptors, as well as other membrane-associated proteins, and proteins comprising microtubules. Another important area of investigation that is conducted in collaboration with other labs is related to mechanisms underlying neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration. Lastly, repurposing of drugs originally developed for neuroscience to cancer and vice versa is another important angle of our research efforts.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Keeping accurate records of the experiments suitable for writing manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • Presenting the results at scientific meetings.
  • Participating in weekly lab meetings, Journal Clubs, and common seminars within the Department.
  • Being able to productively collaborate with other lab members.
  • Conducting experiments under guidance from the Principal Investigator.
  • Adopting new techniques and methods as required to reach research objectives.
  • Training new lab members to conduct basic lab techniques.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD degree in cell and molecular biology or a related discipline.
  • Mammalian cell culture experience
  • Cell – matrix and cell – cell adhesion assays
  • Cell migration assays
  • In vivo xenograft, intraperitoneal and oral drug delivery
  • Tissue histology
  • Immunostaining and fluorescence imaging
  • Western blot
  • Real-time RT-PCR
  • SDS/PAGE gel protein and agarose gel DNA analyses
  • Protein and DNA handling experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with confocal microscopy is advantageous.
  • Experience with neuronal cultures is advantageous.
