College of Alameda’s mission is to meet the educational needs of its multicultural and diverse community by providing excellent comprehensive and flexible programs including basic skills, transfer, and occupational, which will enable each student to achieve his/her own unique goals.
The College is California’s only island-based community college and it offers both park-like tranquility and easy access to urban resources. Having served almost half a million day, evening and weekend students since its 1970 founding, College of Alameda enjoys a well-deserved reputation for excellence in its academic, vocational, and student support programs. The Peralta Colleges
The Peralta Colleges are located in the beautiful San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area, which, adjacent to Silicon Valley, is known for its technology and innovation. The Peralta Community College District was founded in 1964, and serves six cities in the East Bay Area, including Albany, Alameda, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland, and Piedmont. The colleges are Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College. The District has a reputation for developing effective approaches to serving the varied interests and needs of its vibrant community. The District serves over 30,000 students, and is one of the top community college districts in California in transferring students into the UC system. Currently the District has about 800 full-time employees and over 1,250 part-time faculty and part-time staff.
On June 5, 2012, Alameda County voters overwhelmingly passed the Peralta Community College District’s Parcel Tax that will directly benefit our students. Measure B, which passed with 72 percent of the vote, will have a positive impact on the students attending the Peralta Colleges by providing $8 million in annual funding which will help make up for State-imposed budget cuts and allow our colleges to offer additional classes.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

REQUIRED FOR ALL EMPLOYEES
Tuberculosis Examination: Prior to employment, the successful candidate will be required to submit evidence (either skin test or X-ray report) of being free of tuberculosis within the past sixty (60) days. The TB test is a condition of employment and any expense must be borne by the successful candidate.
As a condition of employment, all employees working for community colleges in the State of California are required to be fingerprinted within the first ten (10) working days of the date of employment pursuant to Education Code Section 88024. The District Office of Human Resources processes fingerprints electronically. During the employment intake process, new employees will be given information to have their fingerprints taken at another location.
Immigration Requirement: According to the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the Peralta Community College District is required to verify that all new employees are:
1) A citizen or national of the United States;
2) An alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States; or

Job Description Summary
This position offers a unique opportunity to lead a key college in the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate will provide energetic and creative leadership to the college as it seeks the fulfillment of its mission and goals.
College Presidents in the Peralta Community College District serve as executive officers and responsible agents for the total operation of the college as directed by the Chancellor. The President has full authority to administer and manage the college and participates in district policy making. The President reports directly to the Chancellor.
The President plans, organizes, develops and recommends goals and objectives and oversees recommendations for the selection of personnel. Working within limits established by Board policies and Chancellor’s directives, the President develops and administers the college budget and serves on committees and councils as directed by Board policies or the Chancellor.
The President has a major role is assessing, planning, and implementing capital projects funded by bond measures.
The President should maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, and staff, as well as other educational institutions. The President must have knowledge of community college educational philosophy and top management administrative practices and procedures, as well as college curricula and instructional programs. The President must promote a student-centered culture that ensures access, sustains educational excellence, fosters student development and supports high levels of student achievement.
The President works independently for the college, making decisions based upon Board policies, district goals and Chancellor directives and participate as a member of the Chancellor’s senior management team for the District. The President establishes cooperative relationships in a multicultural, urban community, and must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and make effective public presentations.
Each of Peralta’s colleges have programs of distinction that require unique and specialized skills.
