Description of Work Unit
The Department of Biology at Colorado State University (CSU) is one of eight departments in the College of Natural Sciences. The Department has a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, as well as an international reputation for excellence in research across a broad range of disciplines, including cell and molecular biology, physiology of plants or animals, animal behavior, ecology, evolutionary biology and computational/theoretical biology. The Department of Biology is housed in a state-of-the-art life sciences research facility that opened in 2017. Position Summary
The Department of Biology at Colorado State University invites applications for a Biologist at the rank of Assistant Professor (Continuing Faculty, non-tenure track) with content and pedagogical expertise to teach in the following courses: non-majors Introductory Biology, Cell Biology, and Developmental Biology or other relevant courses depending on department teaching needs.
The position involves undergraduate instruction in both face-to-face and online formats, including course development, (90%) and service (10%).
The successful candidate will have the option to expand their 9-month contract by teaching courses in summer session for additional pay.

Required Job Qualifications
  • PhD in Biology, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated and relevant experience in biology instruction in higher education.
  • Publication record in Biology or Biology Education
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Experience as primary instructor at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Experience developing and teaching courses online.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and teaching using modern pedagogical approaches.
  • Leadership in inclusive pedagogy initiatives.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Mentorship and/or supervising experience.
  • Teaching, research, and/or postdoctoral experience that demonstrates broad knowledge in Introductory, Cell, and Developmental Biology.

  • Instruct undergraduate courses according to pedagogical best practices. Courses may include non-majors introductory biology, Cell Biology, and Developmental Biology or other relevant courses depending on department teaching needs.
  • Develop or update curricula for both face-to-face and online versions of the above courses.
  • Collaborate to develop and implement curricula in corresponding laboratory courses.
  • Participate in departmental initiatives around curriculum, student inclusion and equity, and pedagogy
  • Support graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants for relevant courses.
