Post Doctoral Research Associate Chromatin Biophysics

Purdue University

Job Description

Job Summary

One Post-doctoral position is available immediately in the Bio-imaging and Biophysics laboratory at the West Lafayette campus of the Purdue University (PU). The candidate will work with Dr. Jing Liu (liu456@purdue.edu ) and will be affiliated with the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The laboratory focuses on the application of physical science in fundamental cell biology, which have a direct therapeutic impact on various diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease.

The candidate will work on a NIH funded project (2022-2027) to study the biophysical properties of the chromatin dynamics, and its reciprocal relations with the intracellular activities, such as DNA damage, transcription, and epigenetic modification. The candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with 3 biophysicists, 2 microscopists, and 2 biologists, and will utilize the innovative imaging system to quantify the spatiotemporal dynamics of the chromatin.

The candidates will receive mentorship from both a biophysicist and a cell/cancer biologist, and will have the access to the state-of-art facilities and resources in the Purdue University and Indiana University School of Medicine, including IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center (IUSCC), Indiana Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases (CDMD), and Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (CCBB). In particularly, the candidate will have the full access to training workshops and pilot grant opportunities that are offered by the Purdue University and Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Dr. Liu directly at liu456@purdue.edu .

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, genomics, biophysics, or any closely related field. Experience in chromatin is desired not required.
  • The candidate is expected to have excellent skillset in performing molecular and cell-biology based research including the design, implementation, analysis, and interpretation of laboratory experiments.
  • The candidate is expected to have motivations to learn new techniques and knowledge in imaging instrumentation and computational biophysics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team with interdisciplinary members, and to work independently with minimal supervision. The candidate is expected to conceive individual ideas to write pilot grants and training grants towards establishing the independent research group.
