| Scope of Job | The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) seeks applicants for one faculty position as part of a college wide cluster hire in the broad area of Biomedical Engineering. Successful candidates are expected to start in the Fall 2024 semester. The ECE program at UTRGV has an enrollment of over 900 undergraduate students and 40 master’s degree students. The program has ABET accreditation. Successful candidates will contribute to 1) the new master’s program in biomedical engineering, and 2) develop funded research in biomedical engineering, and 3) collaborate with the School of Medicine. The College of Engineering & Computer Science has a new interdisciplinary PhD program in materials science and engineering and several centers in which the successful candidate can participate as appropriate: the Center for Advanced Manufacturing Innovation and Cyber Systems (CAMICS), the Center for Nanotechnology, the Center for Multidisciplinary Research Excellence in Cyber-Physical Infrastructure Systems (MECIS), the University Transportation Center for Railway Safety (UTCRS), and the Industrial Assessment Center. | Minimum Qualifications | Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a related field from an accredited university (at least conferred before the start date of September 1, 2024). Candidates at the Assistant Professor level will be considered based on demonstrated potential to enhance the teaching, research capabilities of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Applicants must have demonstrated evidence of potential for leadership, skill in interdisciplinary research and collaboration, along with the potential to develop (or already developed) an outstanding research program and high-profile publications as well as a successful record of extramural funding. |
| Discipline Specific Required Qualifications | Applicants must also have a demonstrated ability (or a well-designed plan) to develop and maintain a funded research program and to lead multidisciplinary collaborative projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate having (or potential to) achieved excellence and balance in teaching, research and service, collaboration with faculty across disciplines, and the ability to involve undergraduate students as well as graduate students in research activities. |

| Additional Information | The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund – a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.
