Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Plant Operations and Maintenance is responsible for ensuring the functionality and management of the College’s facilities and grounds. The Director of Plant Operations and Maintenance exercises vision, leadership, and coordination to ensure the College’s needs are met. The Director of Plant Operations and Maintenance shall maintain open communications with all members of the College and monitor and provide feedback on all College facilities projects and is responsible for supervising plant operations and maintenance staff.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Set goals and objectives and assessment strategies for the Plant Operations and Maintenance Department as prescribed for the mission of the College and Institutional Effectiveness model.

  2. Supervises and coordinates the staff and operations of the campus plant facilities.

  3. Supports and coordinates other College units’ initiatives.

  4. Prepares and presents to the college administration progress reports as required.

  5. Monitors and provides feedback, suggestions, and/or recommendations on College projects as assigned by the College President and/or the Vice President of Finance and Administration.

  6. Plans, schedules, and coordinates campus facility improvement projects.

  7. Plans, schedules, and coordinates energy efficiency studies and improvement projects.

  8. Other duties or special projects as assigned by the College President and/or Vice President of Finance and Administration.

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Equivalent

  • Experience in the construction and/or facility maintenance as well as management and business administrative experience.

  • Driver’s License from state of residence with clean driving record.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree
  • Certified Construction Project Manager (CPM)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to operate a computer and common business software programs as well as project management
  • Familiar with construction processes and practices

  • Familiar with O.S.H.A safety regulations

  • Ability to speak before groups and explain complex issues

  • Ability to negotiate complex collaborations/partnerships

  • Ability to work under pressure of deadlines

  • Knowledge of the bidding regulations for public sector projects, specifically schools

  • Experience in construction project cost accounting

Physical Requirements  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.  

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment 

Work is performed in a standard office environment.    

Work inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time.  

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
