    Position description

    A postdoctoral position is immediately available for a highly motivated individual with a strong background in electrophysiology, biochemistry, or structural biology, and an interest in 1) Biophysical and Structural studies of ion channel complexes, 2) Development of novel ion channel modulators for therapeutic use, or 3) Investigation of auto-resistance mechanisms in poisonous animals in the lab of Prof. Fayal Abderemane in the Department of Physiology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The Abderemane Lab utilizes a multidisciplinary approach including electrophysiology, biochemistry, structural biology, pharmacology, and cell-based assays to study how ion channels work, develop novel ion channel modulators, and investigate how poisonous animal survive their own toxins.

    Qualifications

    1) A recent doctorate degree in the field of biophysics, biochemistry, structural
    biology, neuroscience, biomedical sciences, or related disciplines
    2) Experience and demonstrated achievements in protein biochemistry or
    biophysics, cryogenic electron microscopy, or in-vitro electrophysiology.
    Computational skills are also highly desired
    3) Strong attention to details, ability to work in teams, and strong work ethics

    Responsibilities

    1) In this role, the appointee will be actively involved in multiple
    projects/publications, immerse themselves at one of the leading institutions
    for biomedical research in the world, while learning and exercising skills in
    neuroscience, integrative physiology, biophysics, biochemistry, structural
    biology, and science communication.
    2) The appointee will also have the opportunity to strengthen their leadership
    and collaboration skills as we have currently several undergraduate students
    and are expecting graduate students to join our team this year.
