| Position Summary | The Department of Biology at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in biomedical microbiology. Appointment will begin August 10, 2024. We are interested in individuals with research and teaching expertise in the microbiology of medically relevant bacteria. Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant externally funded basic or applied research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate student body as well as Master’s students. Applicants should consider if their research is appropriate for work at a primarily undergraduate institution, with biosafety levels not to exceed BSL-2. Teaching expectation is a sophomore-level microbiology course with laboratories, designed for Biology majors and appropriate for students preparing for graduate or professional schools, and another advanced course in an area of expertise. Successful applicants must possess the skills to teach compelling courses in Microbiology and other lecture and seminar-style courses in the applicant’s area of expertise. |
| Required Qualifications | Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in microbiology or a related field and significant postdoctoral experience is expected at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2024). |
| Preferred Qualifications | Previous experience in teaching and mentoring successful undergraduate research is preferred, as is a demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming learning environment for students. Evidence of scholarly achievement or demonstrated potential as a scholar. |
