RESEARCH SCIENTIST - Biosystems, Engineering, & Soil Sciences UTIA

AREA OF RESEARCH: Carbon-Plant-Microbial Interactions for Soil Health and Agroecosystem Sustainability

JOB DESCRIPTION: The research scientist will have the following responsibilities: conducting hypothesis-driven research that involves both field and laboratory work on soil carbon cycling and soil health in agroecosystems, presenting and publishing research findings, training undergraduate and graduate students and visiting scholars, involving in grant proposal writing, and undertaking laboratory management responsibilities. This is a grant-funded position, so the position will be terminated by the cessation of the funding.

 



Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Soil Science, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Environmental Science, Soil Microbiology, or closely related fields.  Demonstrated postdoctoral research experience (2-3 years) in soil biogeochemical processes in agricultural systems and peer-reviewed publications are required. 2-3 years of experience in soil-ecology based research project and publications. Experience in data analysis, including microbial community analysis, is also required. Strong oral and written communication skills, excellent work ethic, ability to work independently and collaboratively, experience in training undergraduate and graduate students, demonstrated skills in analytical instrumentations, and a valid driver's license are also required. 

PREFERRED

  • 1-2 years of experience in proposal writings and laboratory managements.

LOCATION

  • Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science (BESS), University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN. The research scientist will be supervised by Dr. Sindhu Jagadamma (Jagadamma Lab ) in BESS.
