Research Technician C - Histotechnician

Job Description


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is for a histotechnician in the Histotechnology and Comparative Pathology Facility, a Shared Resourcecore facility for the Albert Einstein Cancer Center. The Facility provides comprehensive histology and histopathology support to Einstein investigators and the Animal Housing and Studies Facility by performing most aspects of tissue preparation evaluation, from necropsy to the final histological diagnostic evaluation.


The person will:


Perform simple or moderately complex technical procedures – These include tissue embedding, tissue sectioning (paraffin and frozen), histochemical tissue staining, and general lab duties.


Require only infrequent guidance – Most routine daily assigned work (tissue processing,embedding, sectioning and staining) is conducted under minimal supervision from management.


May occasionally train or guide other technical personnel - The technician will be responsible for providing training for research technicians, graduate students, medical students, post-doctoral fellows, and other researchers who request use of the Facility’s rental microtomes or cryostat. He/she will also be expected to train Facility users who wish to learn how to freeze tissue samples for frozen sections.

May modify, optimize and troubleshoot experimental protocols.

An understanding of moderately complex scientific literature and moderate understanding of research goals and rationale is required - The technician will be expected to use the literature to develop and troubleshoot tissue fixation, sectioning and staining protocols.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required to have at least a Bachelor's Degree in a related science or equivalent skills or experience, and two to four and one half years of experience.
    Prior histology experience/training is required
