The IT Instructional Designer works with management and operations to determine IT Clinical and IT Revenue Cycle training needs and goals, using a variety of educational media to design and develop state-of-the-art training programs for designated audiences. The Instructional Designer is responsible for analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of training curriculum. This position writes and edits instructional material such as EHR new hire training, train-the-trainer courses, tip sheets, how-to guides, and other documents for various Phoenix Children`s audiences. This individual understands adult learning theory and is familiar with environment builds specific to assigned areas.

Position Duties

  • Develop IT Training Curriculum focused on clinical workflows
    • Develops scenario-based education, web-based micro learning, and video snippets to increase learner engagement and motivation.
    • Maintains and updates existing library of e-Learning materials. Coordinates with subject matter experts to validate training content and materials.
    • Researches, gathers data, and re-purposes existing material as appropriate. Rewrites, summarizes, reorganizes, and enhances to create the most effective documents and performance support tools to meet business needs.
    • Creates and maintains document libraries on IT clinical training website and network drives. Maintains knowledge of copyright law and usage rights for written materials, images, etc.
    • Participates in train environment build, including creation of training patients, patient duplication, testing, and training environment prep.
    • Schedules and conducts classroom, online, blended, remote 1:1, and in-person 1:1 training.
    • Creates simple, clear, and effective communication and documentation. Explains complex topics in direct language that is engaging, to-the-point, and applicable to the delivery medium.

    • Identifies additional training needs for end users as well as opportunities for system improvements and communicates observations to training and application team members.
    • Understands and assists end users with key clinical workflows performed in the EHR (Electronic Health Record) and makes recommendations for enhancements
    • Rounds regularly throughout all Phoenix Children`s departments and practices to assess training needs and provide user support.
    • Confirms understanding of project needs and personal responsibilities

    • Accurately evaluates the need for escalation and then escalates to the appropriate level of authority
    • Participates in department meetings and takes a lead role on projects and in broader departmental and/or hospital initiatives.

  • Consistently produces quality work product that is accurate, complete, and detailed
    • Understands and assists end users with key clinical workflows performed in the EHR and makes recommendations for enhancements
    • Manages a variety of training projects and drives to completion. Develop project timelines, identify milestones, barriers, and dependencies. Allocates resources and establish deliverables.
    • Staffs optimization hunt group line. Provides first call resolution for IT Clinical how-to questions, transfer and escalate issues as appropriate, and document all transactions in ticketing system.
    • Has a wide breadth of application and industry knowledge around supported application(s)
    • Supports the clinical systems by participating in the help desk and after-hour call rotations
    • Troubleshoots, and corrects issues using the hospital ticketing system
  • Consistently demonstrates a collaborative communication style
    • Meets with operational stakeholders to review curriculum and makes adjustments based on feedback and classroom assessments.
    • Participates in workflow and system optimization initiatives, as determined by management, to help the end users gain the expertise necessary for success.
    • Develops and conducts user evaluations to collect data on training effectiveness, including transfer and retention, and provides suggestions for improvements.
    • Captures and documents end-user issues to accurately assist in defining, troubleshooting, resolving, and escalating issues in collaboration with training and application team members.
    • Oral and written communication is clear and concise
