Have a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry or medical science?

Are you interested in working in the medical field, but prefer to work behind the scenes? Do body parts and human anatomy interest you? A career opportunity working in a Histology/Pathology lab might be the job for you!

This full-time position is evening shift working primarily 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm Monday - Friday with occasional Saturday rotation.

What is Anatomic Pathology? Anatomic pathology is the study of organs and tissues to determine the causes and effects of particular diseases.

What is Histology? Simply said, body parts. The more technical explanation: Histology is the study of tissues - groups of cells working together to do the same thing. Knowing what normal human tissue looks like and how it normally works is important for recognizing and treating different diseases.

Ever had a friend or family member have a biopsy? If so, you probably understand the importance of making sure that the medical specimen is prepared correctly so that the physician can diagnose their condition.

So how is this position involved in the diagnosis? This position is critical for producing quality slides for our Pathologists to review under the microscope. It would include accessioning, embedding, sectioning, staining and labeling of surgical specimens.

What's required? Minimum qualifications are bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical or biological science that includes: a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry (at least 6 hours in chemistry and 6 hours of biology).

Already an HT or HTL? We'd LOVE to hear from you!

We are in search of those individuals who seek a meaningful career (behind the scenes!) to work in our brand new, state-of-the-art facility. We will take your education and help you build your future as a Histotechnician!

What do all those medical terms mean??

Accessioning : The process of accepting specimens into the lab and entering specimen detail into a laboratory computer system so that each specimen can receive a unique identification number for tracking purposes.

Processing : Once the tissue has been "fixed", it must be processed into a form in which it can be made into thin microscopic sections. This is usually done with paraffin.

Fixation : The purpose of fixation is to preserve tissues permanently in as life-like state as possible.

Embedding : This is the process in which the tissues or specimens are enclosed in a mass of paraffin wax.

Staining : Staining is used to highlight important features of the tissue as well as enhance the tissue contrast.

We hope to hear from you! Thanks for considering SBMF as your next employer!
