Position Summary

Make a real difference by putting your nursing experience and expertise to work as a Nursing Student Success Specialist at Blue Ridge Community & Technical College. Because the Student Success position is new to the Nursing Program, we are seeking a talented and technically capable person who is passionate about teaching as well as creating highly engaging and effective learning experiences that shape the next generation of nurses.

This part-time position is funded through the Nursing Expansion Grant through June 30, 2024.

This position is located at the main campus, but may report to all Blue Ridge CTC locations as required to meet the needs of the position.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement innovative student success initiatives for the Nursing Program.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to coordinate learning needs of students.
  • Identify content and technology resources needed to support teaching and learning.
  • Assist the Assistant Dean of Nursing with special projects as assigned by the department.
  • Benchmark programs to identify programmatic best practices.
  • Participate in academic coaching as needed.
  • Develop and maintain resources for Nursing students.
  • Provide instruction in clinical, lab, or classroom settings (based on needs of the department).
  • Maintain office hours according to college requirements.
  • Participate in ASN program continual evaluation and improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned to drive the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of the College.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in nursing
  • Graduate degree in nursing preferred, but not required

Experience
  • Registered nurse with direct patient care experience in acute care setting required (2 years)
  • Clinical agency health requirements compliance required
  • Prior work experience in online, hybrid, and in-seat course or project management and/or student success/retention initiatives preferred, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrate deep subject knowledge of the Nursing field including key concepts, current and relevant research methodologies, tools, and techniques, and meaningful applications
  • Possess a passion for student success in nursing education
  • Administrative experience dealing with national accreditation preferred
  • Knowledgeable of Blackboard or other Learning Management System preferred
