The Remote Sensing Division (RSD) of the US Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is seeking applicants for postdoctoral positions through the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NRC) Research Associateship Programs (http://www.nas.edu/rap ). Five research opportunities are available to work within the division:

1) Radio Astronomy: https://nrc58.nas.edu/RAPLab10/Opportunity/Opportunity.aspx?LabCode=64&ROPCD=641506&RONum=B2659

2) Astronomical Optical Interferometry: https://nrc58.nas.edu/RAPLab10/Opportunity/Opportunity.aspx?LabCode=64&ROPCD=641506&RONum=B2663

3) Infrared Astronomy: https://ra.nas.edu/RAPLab10/Opportunity/opportunity.aspx?LabCode=64&ROPCD=641506&RONum=B2658

4) Instrumentation Development for Astronomy and Remote Sensing: https://nrc58.nas.edu/RAPLab10/Opportunity/Opportunity.aspx?LabCode=64&ROPCD=641506&RONum=B2661

5) Ionospheric Studies with Radio-frequency Interferometers: https://nrc58.nas.edu/RAPLab10/Opportunity/Opportunity.aspx?LabCode=64&ROPCD=641506&RONum=B7564

The RSD does basic research in astrophysics with emphasis on solar, stellar, Galactic and extragalactic astrophysics, transients, exoplanet characterization and astrometry. Other areas of research include ionospheric studies, adaptive optics and high-contrast imaging, the development of radio and optical instrumentation, space domain awareness, artificial intelligence and machine learning. These research efforts are done using dedicated research facilities, archival data, and through observing proposals through national and international facilities.

Research facilities available for use by RSD researchers include the VLA Low-band Ionosphere and Transient Experiment (VLITE), the Deployable Low-band Ionosphere and Transient Experiment (DLITE), the Navy Precision Optical Interferometer (NPOI), the Amon Hen hypertelescope, individual 1m telescopes (including with adaptive optics capabilities), DoD High-Performance Computing Systems (HPC), as well as state-of-the-art electronics, optical and other laboratory facilities.

Awards, to be based in Washington, DC, are initially for one year and renewable for up to two additional years. Annual stipend, relocation costs, professional travel allocation and other benefits available. Application instructions can be found at https://sites.nationalacademies.org/PGA/RAP/PGA_183445 .
