Description

Post-doctoral Research Associate - Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science

Description: The Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in experimental as well as modeling aspects of soil quality and other ecosystem services. The main goal of this position is to understand the agronomic and ecological responses of soil quality-building practices by leveraging long-term agricultural field experiments in West Tennessee.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Responsibilities:

By the time of hire, the successful candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Soil Science, Agronomy, Agroecology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field with a specialization in soil and water quality, plant health, or soil carbon and nutrient cycling.

Experience with plant physiology and plant diseases is a plus but not required.

The selected candidate is expected to design and conduct field/laboratory experiments to investigate the impacts of climate-smart practices on agricultural ecosystems. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience in one or more of the following: field and/or laboratory studies related to soil and water quality, designing and conducting experiments on carbon sequestration and nutrient availability, biogeochemical modeling of agroecosystems, troubleshooting analytical instruments including CN analyzers and Gas Chromatographs, data management and analyses, and strong statistical analytical skills.

The selected candidate will be able to collaborate with faculty from diverse disciplines at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture. A demonstrated record or potential for high-quality publications and grantsmanship are also important criteria for selection. Candidates with agroecosystem modeling experience, along with field and lab-based experiment skills, are also preferred. The position is based in Knoxville, TN, but requires some travel to the experimental sites located in West Tennessee.

Open date
Screening of the applications will begin immediately and will continue until a suitable candidate is identified. Candidates who are currently obtaining a Ph.D. will also be considered, but the degree must be conferred by the appointment time. The selected candidate will work closely with Drs.
