SUMMARY
GRCC is seeking an HVAC faculty member who will possess an interest in working with diverse student populations from a wide range of age, ethnicity, national origin and ability; engage in and develop innovative teaching strategies; effectively assess student learning outcomes; demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development; and provide service to our students, the college, and our community at large.

Faculty members are responsible to GRCC and to each other for the successful completion of departmental work, as well as work associated with the School of Business and Industry and GRCC as a whole. In addition to the major position responsibilities, it is expected that faculty demonstrate outstanding communications skills, collaborate effectively, use personal initiative to overcome obstacles and work efficiently to meet deadlines. In an environment where innovation is valued, each faculty member will take responsibility to perform their work in a manner consistent with both the letter and the spirit of GRCC values.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

● Coordinate and develop courses and curricula in the HVAC program

● Assist in the development and evaluation of new programs, curriculum, and courses that reflect the current standards of the HVAC industry.

● Assist the department head by cooperating with campus, industry, and community groups to provide relevant programs, courses and materials.

● Deliver instruction to develop heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning skills.

● Assist in the development of an HVAC/R laboratory.

● Edit and update new and existing laboratory assignments for HVAC/R.

● Assist in the evaluation and revision of existing courses and course materials as assigned.

● Evaluate and select appropriate instructional materials, including readings and exercises.

● Design and develop effective course syllabi.

● Develop effective student assessment instruments.

● Assist in the organization and maintenance of classes, including evaluation, ordering materials maintaining attendance records and assisting with the inventory of materials and equipment.

● Maintain communication with the program’s Advisory Committees to ensure relevancy of training and instructional materials and equipment.

● Assist in implementing and promoting the HVAC/R program/curricula.

● Advise students on curriculum, academic programs, employment and career goals.

● Contribute to the growth and development of the Department/Program and the College, by participating in team-based committee work, departmental/program planning, and other discipline- related and college-related activities.

● Engage in on-going professional development to maintain expertise in the field.

● Demonstrate commitment to a learner centered environment.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education Credentials
● Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
● Masters degree preferred. Candidates without a Master’s degree will be expected to complete a Masters degree before being granted tenure.

 

Work Experience
● Two years (4,000 hours) of related work experience in the HVAC field required.
● Successful teaching/training experience preferred.

 

Skills

● Experience/Familiarity with types of HVAC/R Equipment.

● Willingness and demonstrated ability to use emerging instructional technologies to enhance teaching and learning.

● Willingness and demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population representing a wide range of abilities, ages, genders, nationalities, cultures and experiences; familiarity with materials and methods designed to meet their needs.

● Demonstrated commitment to the community college and its philosophy.

● Demonstrated willingness to put in the necessary time to make the educational program successful.

● Demonstrated expertise of the subject matter.

● Excellent communication skills.

 

Physical Demands

● Excellent written and oral communication skills.

● Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.

● While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

● Required to stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

● Must occasionally physically lift and/or move up to 40 to 50 pounds.

● Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
