Job Description Summary:
The Lab of Dr. Scott Weir in the Department of Cancer Biology of the University of Kansas Medical Center currently has an opening for a research technician position to conduct cancer research. The position will require conducting various experiments, which will include isolation of DNA and RNA from cells, media, serum and tissues, performing PCR, RT-PCR and qPCR analysis, cloning and sequencing, Western blot, immunoblotting, Northern analysis, immuno-precipitation, culturing mammalian cells, preparation of virus stocks and infection of primary cells, and other molecular biology/molecular virology techniques. In addition, the position will require working in a team environment under the supervision of the PI of the laboratory and taking responsibility for assuring quality, cost effectiveness and timeliness for projects while working under the limited supervision of the PI of the laboratory. Experience in molecular biology and cellular, and/or animal research techniques is strongly preferred. Having a bachelor’s degree in molecular and cellular biology or another related life science discipline will be a plus.

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Participate in various experiments involving techniques such as immunohistochemistry, real-time PCR analysis, Western blot analysis, RNA/DNA isolation, histology and imaging.
  • Responsible for overseeing day-to-day laboratory operations of the lab including maintaining flawless laboratory regulation documentation and certification, maintaining electronic files and notebooks, record keeping and ordering supplies.
  • Works with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and research staff by entering data into computer and assisting them in other activities.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned/requested by supervisor or other staff

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
