Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Position Focus:
Extended Studies (EXST) is a self-support unit reporting to the Senior Associate Provost. EXST provides administrative services for a broad range of self-support initiatives, including program planning, program management, student and program services, financial management, and marketing management. Programs include Summer, Winter, and Undergraduate Programs (Freshmen Connection, Universities at Shady Grove, Universities at Southern Maryland, and Terp Young Scholars), and Professional and Continuing Education (graduate, post-baccalaureate, continuing and executive education programs, and UMD MOOCs). Developed in partnership with University of Maryland (UMD) units, these credit and non-credit initiatives target a diverse range of pre-college, undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.

The Program Coordinator of Continuing Education is an essential team member who manages Continuing Education, Executive Education, Continuing Education Units (CEUs), and UMD MOOCs.

The position is a technical resource for non-credit programs and CEUs offered via Open Learning, edX, and Coursera. Responsibilities include providing technical and administrative support to campus units, supporting the non-credit course lifecycle, consulting with faculty and staff to help identify and achieve instructional goals, collecting and reporting on critical metrics, researching, evaluating, and implementing new technologies in response to pedagogical needs; and serving as a liaison between EXST, campus units, and various non-credit platform providers.

This position offers 50% telework.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in program planning and coordination.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Sound decision-making, judgment, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, simultaneously manage multiple tasks, and commit to inclusion and working with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and G Suite.

Preferences:

  • Experience with UMD systems and noncredit platforms (Canvas, edX. Coursera).
  • Experience with UMD campus academic and service units
